Rooney Refuses to Rule Out Future As Spectator Behind The Goal
Manchester United and England soccer ace, Wayne Rooney, has told a press conference at Old Trafford that he would have no reservations about taking up a new role as a season ticket holder with a seat behind the goal if asked to do so by the team manager at some point in the future.
Looking relaxed, Rooney, 47, told reporters: “I’ve already told the gaffer that I’d be more than happy to play in a midfield role if he felt that my sharpness up front was in question. Who knows, I could play in central defence one day, or even in goal when my pace starts to flag a bit.
Eventually, I’d gladly accept a more withdrawn role as a spectator behind the goal at the Stretford End or Wembley if I thought it would be beneficial to the team. In actual fact, the thought of being able to have a few pints and a meat pie or two before kick off is not such a bad prospect to be honest.”
If Rooney does take on a new, less influential role, it will closely mirror the career of fellow England legend, Paul Gasgoine, who, these days, is regularly spotted in various pubs and fast food joints on match days, and pretty much, every other day of the week, since his playing career went into decline in the 1990s.
